Effect of Trunk Bark Spread of Paclobutrazol Dissolved in Methanol - Triton Mixture on the Vegetative Growth of Apple Trees

Abstract
|
|
|
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of trunk bark application of paclobutrazol on the vegetative growth of apple trees.
Paclobutrazol was suspended in half methanol and half Triton mixture. Five and 10% paclobutrazol solution were spread on the trunk bark between soil line and 50cm above the ground in the fall of 1983.
Eight grams ai of paclobutrazol per tree in 12-year old `Fuji´/seedling and 0.25g ai per tree in 3-year old `Fuji´/MM106 and `Tsugaru´/seedling inhibited tree growth significantly. Shoot length, leaf size, and leaf number per shoot decreased, but specific leaf weight increased at above treatments.
This result may indicate that application of paclobutrazol suspended in methanol-Triton mixture on the trunk bark can control the vigor of apple trees.
